Sedum, or Stonecrop, is an extremely hardy succulent, ideal for dry gardens and rockeries. It is the plant of forgetfulness and aridity.
Full Sun (Imperative). Sedum requires maximum exposure to ensure compact growth and rich colors. Shade will cause it to wilt.
Ultra-Draining and Poor. Drainage is the key to success. Use a highly mineralized mix such as coarse sand, gravel, or pozzolan to avoid water retention.
Very Moderate. Allow the substrate to dry completely between waterings. Sedum is very drought-resistant, and overwatering is fatal (root rot).
Excellent. Most common species are very hardy and tolerate severe frost.
No need. Do not fertilize. Sedum prefers poor soil, and adding nutrients would make it fragile and less attractive.
Perfect for rockeries, low walls, green roofs, and maintenance-free outdoor pots.
