Cyrtomium fortunei is an evergreen fern in the Dryopteridaceae family, native to East Asia ( China , Japan , Korea and Taiwan ). It grows naturally in shady, humid forests , often on humus-rich soils or in sheltered rocky areas.
This species forms a clump of thick, glossy, evergreen fronds, generally 25 to 40 cm long, sometimes even longer. The broad, slightly toothed segments give the foliage a decorative appearance sometimes reminiscent of certain holly leaves, hence its English name , holly fern .
Robust and relatively tolerant, Cyrtomium fortunei is a fern appreciated for growing in pots, in bright indoors or in shady areas of the garden .

Cyrtomium fortunei tolerates cool to temperate temperatures and generally withstands a few degrees of frost in open ground.
Moderate to high ambient humidity promotes the development of beautiful fronds.
